Kumrovec
In written monuments, Kumrovec first appears in 1463, as one of the estates of Cesargrad, which has been under the rule of the Counts of Celje since the 14th century.
The meaning of the name Kumrovec probably comes from the word "kumerni" which means poor, miserable and reluctant people, as the Cesargrad feudal lords called their serfs.
There is also the opinion that the name Kumrovec originated from the word “kumr”, a Celtic word meaning “mud”, a word that well described the condition of the land and roads in the Sutla river valley. The name of the stream and the village of Škrnik came from the same source and the same meaning.

Desinić
Desinić is an ancient settlement that was first mentioned as a parish seat in as early as 1334 as the parish of „Ecclesia sancti Gheorgii de Zothla” (“Parish of St. George of Sutla”).
However, the oldest material records date back to the early medieval period. A bronze latch found in the vicinity of the Velika Horvatska village dates back to the Early Carolingian period around the year 800, when the Sutla River (today the river that forms the natural border with Slovenia) was also the border between the Franks in the west and the Avars in the east.

Zagorska sela
The territory of the municipality is located in the Sutla valley, and entirely represents the end northwestern part of the lower Hrvatsko Zagorje and the northwestern surroundings of Zagreb.
Sela Municipality had existed since 1886. It was located within the Klanjec District and the Varaždin County. In 1952, Zagorska Sela Municipality was re-formed within the Klanjec District. From 1955, it became an integral part of the former Klanjec Municipality, until 1993, when it again started operating as Zagorska Sela Municipality within the Krapina-Zagorje County.
